Compared to common tropical orchids, especially those grown at home, native orchids do not seem to be found in the wild in Europe. Despite the fact that European orchids are small and consequently less conspicuous, there are not many plants that have been studied in such detail. The orchid family is also called the cuckoo orchids, a term more familiar to many, which evokes the appearance of our native orchids.
